Life at Sea
Oftentimes, failure defines future achievement. As I have been forced by failure to return to the field over and over again, success has been accomplished. Perhaps the word stick-to-itiveness would best describe my artistic journey.
Numerous times I have sat at this particular location close to our home in San Diego. I shot multiple images, but none were ever good enough to release. This day, I watched as big thunderstorms were building over the ocean. I hoped that maybe at last the Life at Sea would bring a concluding image to my years of waiting.
With my tripod in position, my attention was drawn to the horizon. My question of study was, “Is there enough ceiling on the horizon to allow the warmth of the sun light to cast its red light through the billowing thunderheads?” As you can see, the years of waiting finally created the hopeful photograph.
Shortly after the image was executed, a huge downpour chased my good friend and graphics designer, Jaysun, and I off the beach. Had the storm hit us just two minutes earlier, we would never have been able to hold our positions!
In attempting to place an appropriate name for this image, I decided the foreground rocks must share their story. Just imagine the years of watching every sunset, each passing ship and the stories these stones could share. Thus, LIFE AT SEA.
